Contrastive Analysis and Translation:

Arabic, Italian, English

This text offers a wide linguistic-philosophical description of the problmes connected to the task of translation for both students an translator. It wants to give students of Arabic as well as of English the opportunity to use contrastive analysis between the sources and the target language, so to emphasize how the same source language can be manipulated once the target languages are more than one. In fact the comparison involves three languages: Arabic, English and Italian. Through the historical background concerning the development of the first translating schools in both the Arab and the western world the reader can acquire a clear idea on how translatong problems have been faced by various authors according to different settings and cultural contexts. The translation of passages belonging to the area of language for special purposes offers examples of literary, media and philosophical texts. Each passage is enriched with a list of words, some exercises and a brief description about the author of each passage. The contrastive analysis section offers the main terms of Arabic linguistics. The focus of the whole book is double: 1) on the value of culture during the task of translation, 2) the opportunity to learn foreign languages at any age. The philosophical problems connected to the Arab world want to emphasize the importance of Persian philosophers on islamic philosophy. Passages from Mulla Sadra point on the notion of essence and existence.
